100 years ago, Florida residents needed only to step outside their homes to experience a lush natural wonderland. Today, many Florida residents must travel miles from their homes to find the ever diminishing islands of green.
Greenways are areas of protected open spaces defined as passive areas to interact with nature; where it’s quiet enough to recharge the soul; when the wind can blow and all you hear is leaves. It could be a place to paddle, a place to ride a horse or bicycle, or a secluded spot to read a book. As Manatee County continues to develop and open space diminishes, greenways that we set aside will benefit Florida’s native ecosystems and its people, both for today and for the future. Communities all over Florida have recognized the value of Florida's native landscape and are protecting green space for wildlife and for people's need to touch the earth. Greenways and trails are found throughout the state, in rural and urban areas, from the Panhandle to the Florida Keys. Friends of the Trails presents each one of us with a rare opportunity to personally impact this area - together - in a positive and lasting way that none of us ever could hope to accomplish alone. By combining our time, efforts and money toward creation of an integrated trail system linking natural areas, parks, historic sites and quaint “downtowns,” we can help to preserve the “real Florida” not only for our own benefit but for future generations too. A wonderful investment and a priceless legacy which we can all share with pride! Membership form PDF File |
