***Regional Multi-use Trails map

  • Map shows existing, planned, future trails and for citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Hills borough, Polk, Manatee and Sarasota Counties

Below is a newsletter on what is happening with trails in Manatee & Sarasota County. I write this column for the Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club which has been very supportive of our non-profit organization. We all want to see more non-motorized trails in Manatee County.

I am actively involved with the Advisory Committee of Sarasota County for Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trails. In 2008 I took on the chair position for Manatee County Advisory committee for Bicycle, Pedestrian and trails. Plus I'm a active member in the Friends of the Legacy Trail.

Manatee County Trails

  • Robinson Preserve News

Robinson Preserve is getting closer to their “Opening” day.  They have to finish the storm drains and water sewers.  Parking lot and earthworks have a April 3rd target date and grass/seeding target date of April 21.  Final Construction Date is April 27...  The Visitors Center still needs work but they will have a “soft opening” sometime in May.

Robinson Preserve will feature numerous recreational opportunities for the community. Resources for low-impact environmental activities will include hiking and biking trails and a canoe/kayak launch. Additional amenities will include observation towers and platforms, picnic areas, and a visitors' center.  (Information taken from Manatee County ).

Master Trail Plans: There are 14 trails in the Master Trails Plan and we (Friends of the Trails) feel the Willow-Ellenton Greensway (rail to trail) and the regional Trail plans that connects us to Hillsbourgh and Sarasota County should be high on the implementation list. However, Rye wilderness trail involves replacement of the Rye Bridge which is a large expense item.
